All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16
I attended a memorial service honoring the life of an 83 year old man this week. The pastor who gave the eulogy talked of this man’s love for God’s Word and how it had been his compass. He faithfully read the Bible from cover to cover each year. I had the honor of talking with his youngest son after the service and how touching it was when he showed me his father’s well worn Bible. It was full of notes and cards along with a Bible reading plan sheet from this past year. Each day had been faithfully checked off until the middle of October when he fell sick. Amazing! This man continually read and learned through life’s mountains and valleys. He was a man “thoroughly equipped for every good work” and I’m certain he heard the Father say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21)
I too have read the Bible through for many years now and look forward to starting afresh in January. God’s Word has sharpened me, encouraged me, taught me, refreshed me, rebuked me and challenged me in ways no other book or speaker ever could. It has equipped me to be who I am today and I am certain it will continue to equip me for the days and years ahead. God’s Word is just as relevant today as it was when first inspired by the Holy Spirit and scribed by faithful men.
I jumped at the opportunity to review the NKJV Journal the Word Bible by Thomas Nelson because of the personal transformation I have experienced through the combination of reading the Bible and journaling my thoughts. Bible reading should not only be a check off the list (although I do this to stay intentional) but must be personal and combined with action. When I journal my response to the reading of God’s Word it helps move my thoughts toward action.
What a great combination: a Bible with room to journal.
The copy I received and the copy I have to GIVE AWAY is a black, hardcover, large print version. The print is large compared to other journaling Bibles I have seen but not the large print you see in your grandmother’s home. (Who am I kidding? I am almost there!) There are 2-inch wide lined columns on each page, leaving room for notes, thoughts or artistic expression. This Bible contains both the Old and New Testament with the words of Jesus in red print. Also handy is the elastic to hold your spot or keep the Bible firmly closed. This journal Bible from Thomas Nelson not only comes in the NKJV but also the KJV.
The only downside in my opinion is that I enjoy a study Bible that contains commentary notes as well as a concordance. But to have these along with the journaling space would most likely be too thick to bring out of the house.
If you like to journal and artfully express your thoughts then the NKJV Journal the Word Bible is a great choice for you as well as a gift for someone special.
As we prepare for a new year I want to challenge you to be in God’s Word daily. For many years I desired to be a woman who read the Bible daily. Godly desire without action cannot bear fruit. Godly desire with action will bear much fruit. Find a Bible reading plan that fits your life style well – but find one, don’t just think about it! Either print a plan off or have it handy on your phone via an app. This will keep the vision fresh before you each day.
Would you like to put your name “in the hat” for the giveawy of this awesome Bible?
