I don’t know about you, but there are times when I feel like giving up. Have you ever gone through a rope’s course? In my college years, while training for a short-term mission trip, I was challenged to a climbing wall. The first half of the climb I could hear the cheers of my teammates below. The second half of the climb was more intense and fear and exhaustion drowned out the cheers from below. Unable to see how many rungs were still ahead to endure, I felt alone, void of strength and ready to give up. I actually screamed out,
“I can’t do this anymore!”
Right before letting go, I heard a voice coming from the platform above me, “You’re almost done. You only have two more rungs – I am reaching out to help. Don’t give up!” All of a sudden, adrenaline set in and I was able to reach out for the next rung and take those last few steps. The best was ahead – the amazing feeling of finishing well and a fun zip line to take me back down.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9
I’m preaching to the choir here: Do not give up! In the Greek, “give up” means to lose heart or collapse in weariness. Isn’t that just the opposite of what the Lord wants for us? When the cheers of teammates are drowned out by fear or weariness, listen in to the voice from above. The Lord is near and He’s always reaching down to help us. Don’t lose heart or collapse in weariness. Press on because harvest is coming!
Take 3 minutes to listen in to a word of encouragement to take that next step.
